Something to do: Cheltenham Literature Festival 4-13th Oct '24
Share
It seems all I talk about is books! Here I go again, this time for anyone near Cheltenham over the next couple of weekends, because it’s the Cheltenham’s Literature Festival.
In its 75th year, the festival starts on Friday 4th October, through to the 13th, and is a great celebration of the written and spoken word. Aimed at both adults and children, there are high-profile speakers, writing workshops, art activities, quizzes and so much more to do and see. Even better there are plenty of free options, as well as paying to join a talk or two.
We have been a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed attending talks by Cressida Cowell, the author of How to Train a Dragon and Andy Griffiths, co-author of The 13-Storey Treehouse. The whole experience really energised and engaged both kids in the story writing processes, plus it led to a renewed interest in reading afterwards (you can’t beat that)!
The kids talks we went to were also followed by book signings in the Waterstones located on site and our signed books are now prized tokens from the day. Here are a couple of quick tips you may find helpful…
- Buy the books you want signed before the session (or bring your own).
- My husband didn’t go to the talks, instead queued up for the signings, which meant when everyone dashed out of the talk to queue, we already had our places secured. This saved so much time!
There is so much going on, check it out their brochure, or website.
Enjoy :)
