Fun Halloween games for Kids
Share
My 9-year-old is so excited by Halloween and is currently debating his costume of choice, apparently the skeleton costume I have made him wear for the last couple of years won’t cut it this time! For a bit of fun though, I have organised for some of his friends to come over and am planning a few spooky themed games.
Now we tried a few of these last year and they went down a treat, plus they are all easy and cheap to set up.
My first 3 games are all classic favourites, apple bobbin, doughnut dangle and stick the wart on the witch. The doughnuts hanging from the string was a kid favourite, I bought Halloween themed doughnuts as well, which the kids loved. The Nose on the Witch (like pin the tail on the donkey), was just an inexpensive kit I bought from the supermarket, you can find plenty on Amazon too click here
These 3 games got plenty of laughs and offered up some great photo moments...
Cheesy Foam Toss
So, all you need is:
- Shower caps – 1 per pair, I just got cheap ones from Home Bargains
- Shaving foam
- Cheesy ball crisps
- Stopwatch / Minute timer
In pairs, one person puts on a shower cap, the other has a bowl of cheesy balls. Each shower cap wearer gets a liberal squirt of shaving foam on top of the cap. Each pair then stands 2-3 meters apart (depending on age of the pairs).
On the start of the timer the crisp thrower has to get as many cheesy balls as possible to stick to the foam on their partner’s head. Simple as that!
At the end of the timer (we did 1 minute), count up how many balls are stuck to each head. The winner is the one with the most balls.
This was truly the funniest thing I have seen in a long time, and so much fun. Just a couple of little tips – play this outside unless you want a big clean up task. Also, when taking off the hat, try and fold it in on itself so you catch all the foam and balls on the inside – far easier to clean.
Pop goes the pumpkin – taken to another level
You will need:
- Balloons, ideally oranges in colour
- Large piece of cardboard
- Tape
- Dice – bigger the better (show pic of home-made dice)
- A couple of balloon popping options
- Sweets
- Paper & Pen (for dice roll methods)
This one needs a little bit of prep work. On the cardboard, draw a large pumpkin shape and paint it or colour it in. Then take an uninflated balloon and pop in some wrapped sweets or suitable prizes – we left some empty, some had multiple sweets, or you could also write some dares on paper strips and insert them. Blow up the balloons, not too much so the prizes remain hidden. Stick the balloons all over the cardboard and lay the whole thing on the floor.
To make this a bit more fun, we created a list of methods by which you had to pop the balloons on the roll of a dice. Bring together a few things you think will be funny, we had an umbrella, a shoe, a wooden spoon and a book, then assign them to a number from 1 to 6 (we also added body parts to pop the balloons - bums, elbows, etc).
So, to play, you rolled the dice, depending on what your roll determines what you have to use to pop the balloon. We all just took turns until we ran out of balloons and stashed our winning sweets in our treat buckets.
Mummy Wrap
You will need:
- Toilet paper rolls, at least 2-3 per pair
- A timer
Another nice simple game that created lots of laughs. In pairs on the start of the timer wrap your partner up in toilet roll like a mummy. The person covered up the most at the end of the timer (again we had a minute) is the winner.
Enjoy this spooky time of year and happy trick or treating!
